buy custom Bioinformatics and Biomedicine Workshops essay
buy custom Bioinformatics and Biomedicine Workshops essay This is a technique that is used in the conducting of very highly sensitive experiments that are biological in nature such as in detection of DNA, or in micro array experiments. The micro array technique is a very sensitive analytical procedure that can be used to analyze multiple illnesses. The only problems with this experimental techniques is that they are expensive, involve a very large number of samples which are complex and very difficult to analyze. These genes are the ones that are referred to as the biomarkers. These genes are identified in studies through the micro array technique. The procedure that leads to the identification of these genes is by a process of continuous characterization of cells especially in the presence of cancer. This has been used in the enhancement of the disease diagnosis and prognosis potential. The micro array technique has the following shortcomings, the number of the genes is highly dimensional and they indicate and show a scarce number of replicates. This study is highly variable across the replicates, the data that is found in micro array technique is never homogeneous and therefore requires normalizing and most of the data is normally non -linearly. This makes it very hard to study using the micro array technique. In order for this to be overcome, the data will have to following strategy: First; the microarray experiment will have to be done at two levels, in a healthy individual and in a patient with characteristic of cancer. Secondly, each gene is to be represented with multiple performance measures where the genes are represented with a value usually a value (P). Thirdly, a statistical data envelopment strategy is used. This finds the complex envelop of particular data set consistently. This eliminates the need for the manual manipulation of information. This is an application of linear programming where linearity is an important application. Next, the genes are selected in a series of frontiers, in this techniques, several layer of genes are selected containing a variable number of genes. This is found through the variation of the p-value. The candidates selected in this mode are named as efficient genes. The other step will involve the generation of an experimentation design that will var y the efficient genes, this is used to dictate the value of interest between the values zero (0) and (1). At every step, the performance value is determined is determined with a linear discriminant analysis which sets the classification performance. This is then fitted in a first order linear regression model; this expresses the direct relation between the performance values to the efficient genes which is set as an independent variable. Finally, the integer linear regression programming is applied to help make a choice of the potential biomarker that will be able to maximize the classification performance for the diagnosis of the specified disease condition. This is the process that is referred the as the consistent detection of potential biomarkers with linear models. Buy custom Bioinformatics and Biomedicine Workshops essay

Do You Need a Book Editor Why Authors Have to Hire Editors
Do You Need a Book Editor Why Authors Have to Hire Editors Do You Need a Book Editor? Why Authors Have to Hire Editors Do you really need to hire a book editor- especially when you self-publish?Letââ¬â¢s face itGone are the days when an aspiring writer only dreamed of publishing. Technology has made self-publishing about as commonplace as learning to drive.Heres what youll learn about hiring a book editor:Why do you need a book editor? What does a book editor do?What the self-editing process isWhen to hire an editing teamWhat is a good book editorHow much does a book editor cost?Accepting that you need an editorNOTE: We cover everything in this blog post and much more about the writing, marketing, and publishing process in our VIP Self-Publishing Program. Learn more about it hereWhy do you need a book editor?Tried and true strategies for creating, producing, and organizing content are readily available to any aspiring author along with a wide range of self-publishing courses from self-publishing companies and free resources that decode the once mysterious process of writing and publishing a book.An yone willing to put in the time, energy, cost, and effort can crank out and self-publish a book. Itââ¬â¢s really that simple. Well, thatââ¬â¢s the good news.Far less straightforward, however, is the multifaceted, often undervalued topic of book editing- the essential step that makes your manuscript actually worth reading.Working with an editor is, in fact, so important that some authors, particularly fiction writers, begin their writing process with an editorââ¬â¢s support. Most authors seek the help of an editor at the end stages of their process, and, depending on how much work was put into the first draft, hiring an entire editorial team may be necessary. If this sounds costly and time-consuming, it definitely can be, but these are included in the cost of publishing a book. Fortunately, the work and cost of editing your manuscript can be mitigated by educating yourself about the process, incorporating editing costs into your overall budget, and learning how to self-edit your manuscript, so you can be prepared for the last step in turning your manuscript into a finished book. And you thought writing the manuscript was the hard part! The Self-Editing ProcessAfter the grueling first draft is complete, many first-time authors find themselves dismayed by the unforeseen cost of editing. Not to mention overwhelmed by the extensive rewriting they are suddenly burdened with just when they thought the heavy lifting was over. Most novice writers are unaware that revision is 80 percent of the work involved in book writing. So if you get to that glorious moment when you finish your rough draft only to feel beaten down when you realize just how much revising you have to do, youââ¬â¢re not alone. For those unaware of what it will ultimately take to polish your manuscript for publication, the back-end job you are presented with at the last stages of writing a book can be both costly and extensive if you didnââ¬â¢t devote ample time to editing early drafts. But there is hope!Considering the following can help you prepare your draft for editorial review and save you money. When to Hire Your Editing TeamYes, I said ââ¬Å"team.â⬠When I worked in traditional publishing, every manuscript went through no less than four separate editors. Sometimes close to a dozen rounds of editing. And you know what? There were still usually a few typos that slipped through!Let that sink in for a second.Just as producing a manuscript involves a varied skill set- writing, formatting, cover design, etc.- so does editing it. Depending on your genre, writing skills, experience, and how much time you put into revising your draft and incorporating the feedback of trustworthy readers, you can determine which kind of editor you need to get you to the next phase without spending extra time and money. Estimating editing costs (along with the approximate time it will take to complete each stage of the editing process) in your budget and timeline will also save you ti me and energy finding top-notch editors you can afford. What makes a good book editor can I afford one?Well, yes. But only if you are willing to put the time and effort into your manuscript. Before you start reaching out to prospective editors, it is important to assess the work youââ¬â¢ve done from an objective standpoint so you can shop according to your budget and particular needs.Consider the following before hiring a book editor:Your overall budget for editingHow many beta readers have provided feedback (people who read your rough draft)Your experience levelYour timelineHow much time has been spent reworking the textIf youââ¬â¢ve never worked with an editor before, itââ¬â¢s important to know who does what and when to employ their services. There are a few different types of edits to be aware of before hiring an editor.Developmental editors address the big picture, looking closely at the content to analyze structure, plot, and characters in works of fiction and the rheto rical concerns, organization, and overall flow of ideas in non-fiction. Content editors analyze the existing content in the book itself. Specifically paragraph flow, tense, voice, and readability. Just remember that all editing is subjective. What one editor likes, another may not. So it is super important to find someone who specializes in your book genre for this stage.Copy editors focus on the nitty-gritty of grammar, syntax, punctuation, and clarity and may also revise and rework particular sentences or paragraphs. Proofreaders are the last readers/editors in line who myopically comb through the manuscript for any remaining errors. Just remember, if you didnââ¬â¢t have your draft copyedited first, the proofreader is unlikely to catch everything.Keep in mind no one is perfect. Typos happen. Itââ¬â¢s just life.Depending on your genre, skillset, and budget, you may want to consult with developmental editors after youââ¬â¢ve written several chapters or even as you outline y our book and brainstorm. This will help you steer clear of major revision (hopefully) and set you on course for a smooth book writing process. In general, itââ¬â¢s a good idea to start assembling your team as you near the end stages and prepare yourself and your manuscript for editorial review.Heres an example of what you can (and should) find regarding the different types of book edits when you research your own editor. How Much Does a Book Editor Cost? Most editors do not charge by the hour. Book editing costs are assessed based on word count or by the page, and editing rates differ depending on the type you need. Generally, you can expect to pay anywhere from $.05-.18 per word for copyediting, $.03-.07 for developmental editing, and $.01-.02 for proofreading. These costs vary greatly depending on the editorââ¬â¢s experience, reputation, demand, and the amount of work they will need to put into your draft. It is not uncommon to spend several thousand dollars editing a full-lengt h book. But fear not! There are various approaches you can take to keep costs low if money is an issue.Heres how you can save money when hiring an editor:Assemble a team of beta readers who can provide feedback for revisions during the writing process. Share several chapters at a time, incorporate any feedback into your revisions, and choose people who are willing to give you honest notes. This can be particularly helpful for content-related issues.Consider hiring a college student or reader with a background in English who has a passion for editing and wonââ¬â¢t be concerned about hurting your feelings.Check out freelance websites like UpWorkor even a great site called Scribendi. (Warning: if you source an editor from these sites, make sure you hire another, professional set of eyes to go over it afterward. There is no way to know what you are getting otherwise. Just because the draft comes back better than it was before, does not mean it was well-edited!)Take the time to educat e yourself about grammar, punctuation, outlining, and other technical issues, especially for nonfiction works. Rely on websites such as The Owl at Purdue for style guidelines and support with grammar, punctuation, and research concerns.Fiction writers may want to join a writers group or workshop to benefit from the help of others who have experience with your genre and can help you develop your craft, challenge flaws in your narrative or character development, and help you improve the overall quality of your story. A flawed plot or character is much harder to revise after you finish writing your book, so itââ¬â¢s important to catch such problematic aspects of your book early on.Donââ¬â¢t overestimate your skills and brilliance as an author! At least not when youââ¬â¢re working your early drafts. Even the best writers agonize over and discard much of what they initially produce, as there is simply no way around combining inspiration with structure.Read books on writing, seek information about the kind of writing youââ¬â¢re doing, and find ways to approach your work with a fresh perspective.Give yourself ample time and space away from your project so you can see it as clearly and objectively as possible.Accept that you will never be totally objective about your writing, and that you will need, no matter how great your book is, the help of others to turn your manuscript into a masterpiece.Your Book is Still Your BookWhen all is said and done, just keep in mind this is your book and no one elseââ¬â¢s. The beauty of self-publishing is that you have the final say in your own work. There is no big, bad publisher denouncing your creative freedom. If you donââ¬â¢t agree with some of the suggested edits, delete them! Your editors donââ¬â¢t know your book-baby as well as you do. So, while expert feedback is essential to creating a polished, professional-quality book, have some faith in yourself and your writing. You chose to write for a reason. So keep that in mind as your editor chops up the book you worked oh-so-hard on.When you find the right editors (and it may take a few tries), whom you work well with, hold onto them! If you do, it will be mutually beneficial as you create and build together.Happy editing! Are you ready to publish your book for success?Hiring a book editor is just one of the many steps necessary in the publishing process. In order to avoid making mistakes when publishing, watch our free training that goes into depth on how to succeed as a self-published author.

Community Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Community - Essay Example My notion of community was confined to this setting and usually my mind wandered to the rural area or the countryside with old folks and relatives doing small jobs at home. Champion swimmers are Olympians who win gold medals. To me that was a fact that was always at the back of my mind. They compete to win but are a rare kind of people and they donââ¬â¢t compose a community. They are single individuals, motivated and driven to win but are never living together, or concentrated in a geographic area. A community is different ââ¬â it is a group of individuals with a common objective and situated in the same place. This opinion is just an opinion which later turned out to be wrong when I came to love the world of sports, particularly swimming. As I grew older in knowledge and spirit, I came to believe that a community is not confined to a small group in one geographic location. Community and sports can be joined together. Swimmers can be one community, people who connect to each other just like other individuals with the same hobby and likes in life. Chess players socialize and connect with other chess players in far places of the globe. Basketball players play hard to get that championship trophy but they form a community of real athletes who must have the stamina, physical endurance and, above all, teamwork. Swimmers love to talk and be with swimmers. We enjoy reading the lives of Olympian swimmers, their hardships and pains, and their successes. The world of sports is as big as the world itself, and swimmers who come from all walks of life can be a community. In my younger years, few dull thoughts formed in my young mind ââ¬â that I was not made to win and that I would not belong to a sports community. As I learned to swim, I realized I was part of a community, even if that community is composed of people who do not know each other

DNA Barcoding Invertebrate Lab Report #1 Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
DNA Barcoding Invertebrate #1 - Lab Report Example Currently two such databases exists, the Barcode of life (BOLD) and The International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaborative which is an intiative of the three main Nucleotide databases, GenBank, EMBL and DDBJ. The fouth and final stage is to carry out an analysis where specimens are identified with the closest matching reference record in the aforementioned databases. In this lab report, we sought to perform a barcode analysis using mayfly DNA sequences in the BOLD database. The barcode sequence is mainly a short DNA sequence which has a uniform location in the genome and is used to identify species. One of the commonly used sequence in DNA barcoding is the cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (COI). This was the sequence we used this work. The barcoding process involves identifying a universal locus which has retained enough sequence conservation throughout evolution and can be sourced from many organisms. This sequence should also be diverse so as to be competent enough to differentiate a target species to the family level. Generally regions of the chloroplast (rbcL gene) and the mitochondria (COI) meet these requirements. Various studies have been undertaken by Herbert et al (2003a, 2004b) and established this COI sequence as the sequence of choice in DNA barcoding in insects and vertebrates. Inverterbrates such as mayfly are collected whole and may b e euthanized in a kill jar by placing them in a freezer. In the lab, primers are designed to target the conserved regions flanking the rbcL or the COI
Same Sex Marriage in California Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Same Sex Marriage in California - Essay Example Hence, the people wanted to pass this measure as a constitutional amendment to restore the definition of a recognized marriage in California as between a man and a woman. When the advocates of Proposition 8 presented their measure to the California Secretary of State in 2007 for permission to circulate, the ballot title that was given to it was the "California Marriage Protection Act". Prior to the passage of the Proposition 8, same-sex marriage was a constitutionally-protected right in California. The California Supreme Court Justices affirmed this understanding of the constitution in May 2008. Charlene Gomes (2005) argued that since that there is an increasing number of committed same-sex couples in the United States, there is a need for legal recognition of these relationships in order to foster the emotional and economic well-being of these families. Marvin Allison (2007) argued from a progressive religious perspective, which emphasizes justice at the heart of marriage, sexuality and family. He stated that justice means seeking abundant life for all. He then states that justice requires careful examination of social practices and institution that foster or forbid human flourishing. Furthermore, he stated that justice demands that we empower disenfranchised persons so they may lead their own life projects. A just society is one that allows people to fulfill their individual desires such as the capacity to enjoy various sexual partnerships. Several states such as Vermont, New York City, and foreign jurisdictions have passed laws allowing same-sex couples. These places cov er the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Sweden, Portugal, Greenland and the Basque region of Spain. The case of Vermont is particularly interesting since same-sex marriage had been promoted judicially by that state. It was on July 1, 2000, when the law allowing civil unions went into effect in Vermont. Civil Unions extend to gay and lesbian couples "all the same benefits, protections and responsibilities under law, whether they derive from statute, administrative or court rule, policy, common law or any other source of civil law, as are granted to spouses in a marriage" (15 V.S.A. [section] 1204(a)).Opponents of the same-sex marriage argue that it goes against the well-being of society. Glen Lavy of the Arizona legal defense group, Alliance Defense Fund stated that he opposes same-sex marriage since it fosters the well-being of children and society. He was pleased with the New York Court when it issued the statement that the government had a key interest in advancing heterosexual marriage as the social institution that best forges a linkage between sex, procreation and child reari ng. Social science researchers have come up with studies that reinforce stability of a heterosexual marriage as providing a positive environment for children to grow up and become responsible adults.Same-sex marriage goes against Christian tradition that has seen sexual love as a gift from God and a good in its own right. However, it also recognizes the dangers of undisciplined desire and its strong destructive potential.Several independent church groups have campaigned for the passage of Proposition 8. The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America headed by evangelical minister Rick Warren supported the passage of Prop. 8. The National Organization for Marriage and Focus on the Family campaigned and helped

2000 word outline research proposal - Essay Example Till 9/11 happened, apparently US didnââ¬â¢t really catch up with the seriousness of the issue. There have been instances like the US embassy bombings in different parts of the world. But such instances were considered mainly as failure of those nations in safeguarding the interests of USA, and nobody actually thought that one day, two US commercial flights full of passengers will collide with its own twin towers and result in killing around 3000 citizens of the world. They were office workers, waiters, police, firemen, moms, dads, friends and neighbors. Thereafter began an era of hunting for the terrorists and their links. It involved gathering info from everywhere with techniques like cyber-snooping. Attention was diverted towards Afghanistan because there was no regime as such. The ruling combine called Taliban did not believe in human rights and controlled the country with terror at gun point. Women were treated like third class citizens, not allowed to attend public functions and schools. One prosperous sheikh from Saudi Arab called Osama Bin Laden was there to help the regime with finances and arms. He had his own set of people ranging from nuclear scientists, engineers, villagers and other trusted lieutenants around him. They had their own ideology of calling the countries like US, UK, India, Israel etc. as the enemies of Muslims. For this very reason they gave calls for Jihad against these countries in particular. Afghanistan has the misfortune of being in news for all the wrong reasons since the late 1970s. It was in 1979 that Soviet troupes from the then USSR invaded Afghanistan and engineered a regime change. These forces remained in Afghanistan for the next 10 years, b ut not before resistance forces were armed with lethal weapons and trained manpower. Thereafter began a bloody era of revenge when the erstwhile President was hanged in broad daylight in the middle of the road. This bloody has not stopped since then. The areas bordering

Film Lone Star Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Film Lone Star - Movie Review Example Lone Star depicts a group of people with its disputes and social undercurrents. On the face of it, it is a murder mystry story delving into interpersonal and interracial conflicts in Frontera', Rio County, Texas. It has many sub plots and levels-- alienated father, annoyed son, misread son of the fuming father, love between two teenagers that gets revived and there's the your -father- was-justice-embodied and your mother was a saint" plot of the adored past sheriff Buddy Dees (Matthew McConaughey) and the evil sheriff Charlie Wade. The present sheriff Sam Deeds (Chris Cooper) is the son of the former sheriff who somewhat, lives in the shadow of his late father is summoned to inquire about a 40-year-old skeleton found in the desert. As Sam dip deeper into the town's mysterious secrets, he learns more about his father, who replaced the corrupt Charlie Wade. As Sam solves the long-past events bounding the skeleton, he also yearns to revive a romance with his first love, a beautiful Hispa nic girl, Pilar Cruz (Elizabeth Pea) whom Buddy categorically barred him to see during his adolescent years. Sam did not gel with his father in those years. Story goes that Buddy Deeds, when was just sheriff a Charlie Wade's deputy, killed the shady and cruel sheriff. When Wade's corpse is found in the desert, Sam finds himself probing his father when he gradually finds the story from the point of view of the town's older residents including a local bar owner, Pilar's mother and the former mayor and comes to know of his father in another light that directly affects his own life. However, the film is essentially about how local residents handle the difficult, often brutal history they have succeeded to and the borders they must traverse to live in peace Mise-en-scene Sayles still reigns supreme on his films right from production and casting control to finally the last cut. "The fact is," he explained, "I've got to the point where I don't need to make movies. . . . Why give up a year of your life for a film you are going to apologise for and you really don't feel is yours" Sayles's films are, clearly, his own. With his unquestionable honesty e and his rank as doyen of American independents, he can afford to shrug at studio support with or without which his best work may yet be to come (kemp, Sight and Sound). In Lone Star, John Sayles, like in his in City of Hope depicts a community with its in-fights and nuances though his signature shot: a long uninteruppted take wandering from group to group, jumping back to link all of them. But halfway , Sayles picks up his three main characters out of this busy backdrop and drops them into unique trouble to play out a tense psychological drama. Lone Star, a decisive film in Sayles' directorial quests (the s creenplay was nominated for an Oscar) is a narrative of borders of all kinds facing the anathema of race mixing and even incest. Texas is a melting pot where Anglo, Indigenous-American, African-American and Hispanic townsfolk ponder about the differing patrimony of these parched and sandy plains. Sayles' camera in its typical easy changeovers between past and present from frame to frame tosses an obdurate attention on a region that has flourished on a misleadingly particular fable. In an interview with the Cineaste Sayles
